Leading Up To Clayton and Alex’s Engagement Session
Clayton and Alex are from Seattle but moved to London for work! Alex is an insanely talented seamstress and has an Instagram account where she shares all of the clothes she creates and wears! Originally, Alex and Clayton weren’t planning on getting engagement photos taken, but when Alex saw I was coming to London, she reached out to me to set up a session! One of the coolest things about this session was that Alex sewed her dress specifically for the occasion. Alex joked that she stayed up all night working on her dress. The dress was beautiful and perfect for the couple's old money aesthetic for their engagement session.
The Day Of Clayton And Alex’s Engagement Session
Portraits At Regent’s Park
Clayton and Alex’s engagement session was on a typical London afternoon - moody, grey, and rainy. I met up with the couple near Regent’s Park to get a few outdoor portraits before we headed to our indoor location. I always like to start outdoors when photographing couples so they can shake their nerves and move around! Engagement sessions are the perfect way to practice being in front of the camera before your wedding day. Alex and Clayton took this as an opportunity to do just that before their Summer ceremony in Seattle!
Unwinding At The London Edition
It was a priority of mine to highlight the incredible architecture of London’s historic buildings. So we spent plenty of time wandering the streets before heading to the London Edition Hotel. The London Edition is a five-star, luxury boutique hotel in Fitzrovia's historic district. The hotel’s old money charm and delicate modern touches instantly made me fall in love. The London Edition hotel has some of the best London Skyline views, with this romantic stay also featuring luxuriant, warm, and welcoming premier rooms and suites. The London Edition Hotel was not only one of the most stunning and cozy hotels I’ve ever stayed at in London, but the level of service was unmatched. I loved how personal the hotel staff members were during our time here. We were greeted by name every time we walked into the lobby and always made to feel as if we were at home. The rooms were also quite spacious for a London hotel, as the city’s rooms are notorious for being tiny! The hotel has plush guest rooms, elevated dining experiences, a rejuvenating recreation center, and upscale event halls.
All Smiles At Berner’s Tavern
Later in the session, we headed to Berner’s Tavern, attached to the London Edition Hotel. Berner’s Tavern is this high-end, elevated tavern with historical charm, and we were lucky enough to have the entire place to ourselves! While shooting indoors requires a lot more stationary direction, such as candid posing, it was incredibly easy for Alex and Clayton to relax and be themselves here. To start, the lighting inside the tavern was so inspiring! From the twinkling chandeliers swinging from the ceiling to the art lights over picture frames, underlighting along the bar, and gold accents.
London Travel Tips and Recommendations
I lived in Oxford for a year before moving back to Colorado. While living in England, I loved London’s culture and food scene. The city has many wonderful coffee shops, parks, and cafes. When visiting London for your engagement session, I recommend choosing a hotel away from all the commotion of the city’s top locations, like Piccadilly, Paddington, and Trafalgar. The Tube, London’s underground transit system, makes it easy to access popular tourist destinations from more quiet, local spots like Fitzrovia. Some of my favorite areas of London include Bethnal Green, Shoreditch, and Fitzrovia. Finding hotels and local spots around the city that are more authentic to London will ensure your experience is as genuine and stress-free as possible.
