Jack and Mary's Editorial Engagement Session In Boulder

Jack and Mary, a beautiful couple from Chicago, wanted their engagement photos to reflect not only their personalities but also their love story, which began in Colorado. They were drawn to the unique and awe-inspiring Boulder Flatirons in the Colorado Rockies for their engagement session backdrop, a stark contrast to their upcoming urban wedding ceremony in Chicago.

I chose a quiet meadow overlooking The Flatirons for Jack and Mary's editorial engagement photos. The area's unobstructed view ensured the focus remained on the couple and the stunning natural scenery surrounding The Flatirons. The landscape's minimal silhouette perfectly complemented Jack and Mary's modern and fashion-forward personalities.

The couple wore two different outfits. Jack's first outfit was a denim, short-sleeved button-up shirt, which he paired with beige chino pants and white sneakers. His second outfit was a taupe buttonless polo shirt, which he paired with forest green chino pants and white sneakers. Mary's first outfit was a neutral, floral-printed midi dress paired with white sneakers. Her second outfit was a tan cropped tee, which she paired with white jeans and white sneakers. The couple's neutral and natural tone outfits beautifully complimented the scenery and their personalities. Overall, the couple's editorial engagement photos perfectly honored Jack and Mary's connection, along with Colorado's beautiful landscape, where their journey together began.

Editorial Engagement Photo Tips From A Boulder Wedding Photographer

What's the best location for editorial engagement photos?

The best location for editorial engagement photos is one that offers a beautiful backdrop without distracting from the main focus: the couple. Look for places with minimal distractions, such as cluttered backgrounds or busy crowds. Natural settings like parks, hiking trails, or scenic overlooks can provide a serene and picturesque environment. Urban locations with clean, modern architecture can offer a voguish backdrop without distracting from the couple. Ultimately, the best location will be one that complements you and your partner’s personality.

What should I wear for my editorial engagement photos?

When selecting outfits for your editorial engagement photos, choosing clothing that complements the background rather than distracting from it is important. Neutral and natural tones are often the best choice, as they blend nicely with most settings and allow the focus to remain on you and your partner. Earthy tones like beige, cream, taupe, and soft pastels can create a harmonious and timeless look. Avoid overly bold patterns or colors that may clash with the surroundings. Instead, opt for solid colors or subtle textures that add visual interest without overpowering the scene.

Additionally, consider the season and location of your shoot when choosing your outfits, selecting fabrics and styles that are comfortable and appropriate for the weather. Ultimately, your clothing should enhance the overall aesthetic of your photos while still reflecting your style.

How should my partner and I pose for our editorial engagement photos?

As an editorial engagement photographer, my approach revolves around capturing authentic moments and genuine emotions between a couple. It all begins with encouraging you to interact naturally with each other. By fostering this natural interaction, I create an environment where your genuine connection and love can shine through in photos. This approach ensures that the moments captured are heartfelt rather than feeling forced or excessively posed.
